Fruits, vegatables, grains, protein.
One of these things is NOT like the others.
A placemat from choosemyplate.gov makes us think that protein is in the same category as fruits, vegatables and grains. Like it is another thing to harvest or collect from the Earth, instead of within the things in your hards already. And most of us believe it. What a sad state of things.
We go from talking about real whole foods to talking about parts of foods, constituents, nutrients- all on the same plate. Strange.
Too bad our S.A.D. western diet supports eating animal fleash to fulfuill this requiremnent as we futilely search for the “protein.”
Much better that if we actually ate the trio left on the plate after we remove the other. Then we will fufill our requiremen for protein ,a confidence that can grow with a bit of pratice and understanding.
Protein is to be found in the following: fruits, vegetables, grains. Really? Really.
Eat a bunch. Eat across the rainbow. If the world and us were even more amazing, we would have apple trees and other fruit trees line the sidewalks, a turely edible landscape. Natures sustsaince awaiting us as we walk by.
Fruits. So many colors and flavors, sweet juiciness.
Eat them before the birds do.
My dad has a small orchard in the backyard where enjoying the fruits of each season is a wonderful way to be connected to and sustained by the land. Trees that grow and support what developes after a flower blooms. Pure nature’s goodness. Seriosuly, if you dont eat them other individuals will.
Blooming flowers fade into goreous fruits. Yum.
Apples, bananas, cherries, dragonfruit, eggplant, figs, grapefruit, honeydew, jackfruit, kiwi, limes, mango, nectarine, orange, peaches, quince, raspberries, strawberries, tomato, watermelon, zuchini…
Vegetables. Leafy or colorful, raw or cooked.
Eat them before the gophers do.
Plants that cover the soil, grow tall up trellises, trail along or branch. Lots of different ways to reach for the sunlight to catalyze photosynthesis.
Asparagus, broccoli, carrots, dandelion, fava beans, garlic, horseraddish, iceberg lettuce, jicima, kale, mushrooms, onion, peppers, riddichio, sorrel, turnip, yams…
Now technically fruits have seeds so some of these can be in the above list but the benefits of eating more of them are greater the more you eat.
Grains. Amber waves.
Most of us do not have enough land to grow enough of these to be worth our while. But we can go and find these in the bulk isles and fill up some mason jars.
I recently talked to a person who commented on how California had so many hills and how where he was from in Michagan we very flat, flat as the eye can see. Vistas of what the song sung in elematary schools across this nation have sang about. Amber waves of grain.
Amarath, barlery, cuos cuos, farro, hemp, lentils, millet, oatmeal, polenta, qunioa, rice, sorghum, teff, wheat…
What a beautiful thing!
Why are we trying to confuse people? The truth lies right beside the lie.
Not to mention the side of dairy. Mother's feeding their children the stolen milk of bovine mother's and calves. How horrabily horrible.
